HistoryAtlantic Packaging Products is a privately owned company that has been in business since 1945, when Abraham Granovsky and his son Phil first opened the doors to a small converting plant in downtown Toronto.

Since that time, the Granovsky family has lead Atlantic through strategic growth, becoming one of the largest and most respected companies in Canada. Through forward-thinking vision, timely acquisitions, and a service driven mantra, the Granovsky family has transformed Atlantic Packaging into an industry leader, focused on delivering quality sustainable packaging products to large and small customers alike.

  • Abraham Granovsky and son Phil Granovsky start Atlantic Packaging Products Limited as a small converting plant in downtown Toronto.
  • Irving Granovsky joins Atlantic Packaging.
  • The company begins to vertically integrate by producing corrugated containers for their own purposes, later selling corrugated products to other companies.
  • Atlantic Packaging relocates to Scarborough, Ontario and begins to produce containerboard, eliminating the need to purchase paper from outside suppliers.
  • The company pioneers the use of 100% recycled containerboard in North America, and commissions their first paper mill. This leadership in environmental stewardship proves to be a success, as other North American paper mills follow suit over the next 40 years.
  • Atlantic opens two more corrugated facilities in Mississauga and Ingersoll, Ontario, while expanding the Scarborough location to double its size.
  • Atlantic purchases the Paper & Distribution Division of Domtar, known as Domkraft, and becomes the forerunner in Flexible Packaging products.
  • Atlantic installs a Tissue Mill and Bathroom Tissue/Paper Towel converting plant in Agincourt, Ontario, producing 100% recycled paper (Consumer Products division).
  • Expands its corrugated division through the acquisitions of Hallmark Containers and Brock Containers, positioning Atlantic as the premier corrugated supplier in the GTA.
  • With a growing demand for high-end graphics, Atlantic forms its Color Pak pre-print division, specializing in state-of-the-art “outside the box” printing solutions.
  • Atlantic’s second 100% recycled tissue mill is opened in Whitby, Ontario, expanding the tissue/towel converting facility.
  • Atlantic opens the first 100% recycled newsprint mill in Canada, in Whitby Ontario.
  • State-of-the-art bag converting equipment is installed, adding plastic bag product lines to the flexible packaging division.
  • A fourth corrugated converting plant is opened in Scarborough – the first in the Toronto area since 1978.
  • Atlantic becomes fully integrated with the addition of the Supply Chain Management division, strategically locating Warehousing and Supply and Inventory Management facilities throughout Ontario.
  • Acquires Chesapeake Packaging’s decorative display division, forming Add Ink, supplying high-end graphic packaging and displays, as well as providing a co-packing service.
  • The corrugated division opens a state of the art converting plant in Brampton, Ontario.
  • Opens the New Forest Paper Mill in Scarborough, Ontario in partnership with Atlantic’s sister company, Mitchel-Lincoln. New Forest is the first 100% recycled containerboard mill built in over 30 years in Canada.
  • Atlantic sells off the Consumer Products division.
  • Atlantic closes the Newsprint division at its Whitby location.
  • Through innovation and state-of-the-art technology, Atlantic Packaging repurposes the Whitby newsprint mill to manufacture SmartCorr – the first high performance lightweight recycled paper in North America.
